SUMMARY:Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the River Center for our monthly lecture series!\nOur December speaker is Aaron Adams Director of Science and Conservation for Bonefish & Tarpon Trust and Senior Scientist at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Florida Atlantic University\nFlorida’s coastal waters and fisheries are suffering the consequences of decades of inadequate management. We see this daily – from algal blooms to seagrass die-offs and fish kills. Recent research found pharmaceuticals and glyphosate in nearly every fish sampled. Although Florida is marketed as the Fishing Capital of the World, our fisheries are suffering from habitat loss and water quality issues. The good news is that we know the sources and causes of the problems and have the solutions to fix our waters and fisheries. This presentation will summarize recent and ongoing research to identify the problems, and some of the solutions to fix them.  \nAaron received a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College in Maryland, a Master’s degree from the College of William and Mary, and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Boston, and also holds a Coast Guard Captain’s License. As Director of Science and Conservation, Aaron is responsible for formulating, overseeing, and implementing BTT’s science and conservation plan, and applying scientific findings to conservation and management via interactions with resource management agencies and other non-governmental organizations. Aaron has been an author or co-author on more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He has authored three books, contributed chapters to four books, and published countless magazine articles translating fish science into angler’s terms. \nRegistration is required to attend.\nThis event is not recommended for children under the age of 14.\nRegister\n
