Evening Lecture Series
Join us at the River Center for our new evening lecture series!
Our March evening speaker is Dr. George Rogers, Botanist, Taxonomist, and retired Professor and chair of Palm Beach State College’s Environmental Horticulture Department
Dr. George Rogers, considered a leading authority on Florida native plants, has created various books designed to encourage native planting in our community, plus many field guides to help identify native plant species. Dr. Rogers earned his doctorate from the University of Michigan and did a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University. Before coming to Florida, he was a professor at the University of the West Indies in Barbados. George spent over 20 years running the Horticulture Program at Palm Beach State College, and retired in 2020. His wife Donna is also retired professor from Palm Beach State College. George’s main interest now is ecological research on wetland plants.
“Learning about Florida’s early horticulturists reinforces all the many opportunities for innovation and forward thinking, and individuals to create their own niche.” – Dr. George Rogers
