 After School Science with Sam | Select Tuesdays from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, join our Scientist Sam for different science and nature based activities for students aged 6 -12
Science with Sam Green Teens | NEW! Select Saturday’s from 10am-11:30am and 1pm-2:30pm join our scientist Sam for advanced science learning for students ages 13-17
Activities will include wildlife encounters, garden exploration, science experiments, and more! This is a drop off program.

Science with Sam

Rocks Rock

Saturday, September 28th, 2024 @ 3pm – 4pm
Location: River Center

We will learn all about the various rocks on Earth, what they are, how they form, and what we can learn from them! They will learn the rock cycle, where specific rocks can be found, and what changes and shapes rocks over time. Students will conduct rock experiments to identify different types of rocks, play a rock game, and more!

Reptile Handling

Saturday, October 12th, 2024 @ 10am – 11:30am
Location: River Center

✨Join us for a class of meeting and learning how to handle various reptiles, of the Loxahatchee and from far continents! This is a wildlife encounter class with opportunities for students to touch and learn to hold education animals.

Bioluminescense 

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 @ 4pm – 5pm
Location: River Center

🔮✨Join Science with Sam for a unique lesson on bioluminescence! This class focuses on organisms that are bioluminescent and why they use their light. Students will discuss what types of animals give off bioluminescence, why the animal uses it, and how that helps them survive. At the end of class, students will be able to observe living bioluminescent dinoflagellates swirl and glow and see how they use their light!

Happy Habitats

Tuesday, November 19th, 2024 @ 4pm – 5pm
Location: River Center

🌱In this lesson students will learn what a habitat is and what habitat necessities animals rely on to survive. Students will understand the challenges of being an animal in a healthy and unhealthy habitat by playing a modified game of predator freeze tag outside!

Network of a Forest

Saturday, December 14th, 2024 @ 10am – 11:30am
Location: River Center

Students will take a unique perspective on the communal network trees create in their habitats. We will focus on the science of forests sharing nutrients and sending chemical communication signals around their habitats and ways scientists can detect this forest behavior.

Invading Invaders 

Saturday, December 14th, 2024 @ 3pm – 4pm
Location: River Center

🌱Students will learn the difference between native, invasive, and exotic species, along with learning common invasive-exotic animals and plants of our area. Students will partake in a class discussion as to how we think some of these species got here and what we can do now that they are. The class will include animal encounters with invasive-exotic reptile species.

🔮✨Join us for a class looking at various ways our Florida ecosystems can be negatively or positively impacted by natural disasters, our communities and cities, and learn things you can do to further protect Wild Florida!

Shifting Sands

Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 @ 4pm – 5pm
Location: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area

In this lesson, students will understand where sand comes from, how it is made, how it benefits the habitats it’s connected to, and how it benefits humans! This lesson includes a sand lab activity teaching students about erosion and why humans want to mitigate erosion along our coastline.

A Day in the Life of a Marine Scientist

Saturday, February 15th, 2025 @ 10am – 11:30am
Location: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area

Partake in an exciting class learning the daily job of a marine scientist! We will be learning: some of the tools used for monitoring and data collection, some methodology of tests, and conduct a biodiversity survey.

Cool Corals

Saturday, February 15th, 2025 @ 3pm – 4pm
Location: River Center

Join Science with Sam for a cool lesson on corals! Students will learn what a coral is and why they are so important. We will also discuss what negative impacts might affect corals, and ideas to combat these impacts to help save coral species. We will also partake in a cool coral craft at the end of class.

Fantastic Fungi

Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 @ 4pm – 5pm
Location: River Center

🌱In this lesson, students and families will learn what fungi and lichen are, and how they benefit humans and nature. Students will experiment with a few mushrooms and lichen in our fungi lab!

Earth Day

Saturday, April 19th, 2025 @ 3pm – 4pm
Location: River Center

🌱In this lesson students will learn about the Earth! Earth has many cycles and goes through many changes that keep life in balance, students will learn what causes the Earth’s cycles, why Earth is the only planet in our solar system with life, what the Earth is made of, and things we can do to be more Earth-friendly!
