Fishing Merit Badge

Fishing Merit Badge – Scouting America

Get ready to get hooked on one of Scouting’s most popular outdoor skills! Scouts are invited to earn their Fishing Merit Badge at this exciting, hands-on workshop hosted at the River Center. Set along the beautiful Loxahatchee River, this experience blends skill-building, outdoor adventure, and conservation education in a fun and supportive setting.

During the program, Scouts will work through key requirements of the Fishing Merit Badge while learning the fundamentals every angler needs to know. Instruction will include hands-on practice with knot tying, selecting and using tackle, and proper casting techniques. Scouts will also explore important topics such as fishing ethics, conservation and stewardship of aquatic resources, local fishing regulations, and how to identify common freshwater and saltwater fish species.

Best of all, this is not just a classroom experience—Scouts will put their new skills to the test by fishing on-site with guidance from knowledgeable instructors. Whether a Scout is brand new to fishing or already has experience, this workshop is designed to build confidence, competence, and appreciation for the outdoors.

All fishing equipment and materials are provided, so Scouts can simply bring their enthusiasm, curiosity, and readiness to learn. This program is an excellent opportunity to complete merit badge requirements while enjoying time on the water and gaining lifelong outdoor skills.
